Ta'atzumot Nefesh – Israel’s Next Battle is Rebuilding Its Next Generation
Following the outbreak of war on October 7th, thousands of IDF soldiers, both regulars and reservists, fought for Israel’s defense. Many returned home with physical and mental injuries, requiring unique and deep support to recover and continue contributing to Israeli society. The *Ta'atzumot Nefesh* association was established to support this generation of soldiers in overcoming their traumas and beginning a profound rehabilitation process. Israel’s next battle isn’t just physical – it’s about rebuilding the next generation.
The Association's Goals
1. Adopting the IDF's "Ta'atzumot" Unit
The IDF’s "Ta'atzumot" Unit, operating under the IDF Medical Corps, is the largest of its kind, specializing in combat stress treatment and psychological support for soldiers. In full cooperation with the IDF’s "Ta'atzumot" Unit, Ta'atzumot Nefesh will create a program offering both group and individual therapy for soldiers in the first stage after combat. This year-long program will provide guidance for soldiers throughout their transition into civilian life. While this program is not the first of its kind globally, it is unique in Israel and tailored to the challenges faced by our soldiers.
2. Overseas Programs
A dedicated program for discharged soldiers traveling abroad will accompany them during their critical post-service journey. The association will offer scholarships and psychological support, maintaining continuous contact with the soldiers from their military service through the "big trip" and back to university studies in Israel. This direct connection will ensure that soldiers are never left alone during their most vulnerable times.
3. Establishing Dedicated PTSD Treatment Farms
Ta'atzumot Nefesh will establish therapeutic farms in key locations where Israeli soldiers travel, focusing on South America and India. These farms will serve as PTSD treatment centers, offering immediate psychological support to soldiers far from home. By continuing their rehabilitation process during the big trip, these centers have the potential to save lives and provide critical emotional support in a distant, yet familiar, environment.
4. Pioneering Research
The association will spearhead a groundbreaking research initiative focusing on the rehabilitation processes taking place in the therapeutic farms during the soldiers’ big trip. This research will delve into how these unique settings impact soldiers dealing with PTSD, offering insights that could reshape global understanding of military-related trauma. The research’s findings may position Israel as a leader in this critical field of study.
