Director's Message

We must change the way we combat antisemitism!

Chabad Carmel Valley is proud to be a trailblazer that inspires other Communities, just like we started with public Menorahs in CV to the recent Peace of Mind program for Israeli soldiers.

I realized that we can't tolerate any antisemitism, we must fight it aggressively and immediately. I'm guilty of ignoring someone yelling from a car, not anymore, I will run, confront them and do my best to educate them, since most antisemitism is due to ignorance and online misinformation.

Our priority is safety, therefore in partnership with Caliber 3, the leader in Israeli counter-terror, security, and self-defense training, we are proud to present subsidized Krav Maga and firearm training to all Jews in San Diego.

We are starting Monday 1/13 several weekly classes, for details please click HERE.

The best way to fight darkness is with our most precious tool, the Light of Torah. This Sunday 1/5/20 at 9:30 am we are starting the new Daf Yomi Cycle, a daily Talmud class, joining tens of thousands of Jews around the world with the goal to learn the entire Talmud in 7 years. Monday to Friday the class will be at 8:00 am and Saturdays at 2:00 pm.

The Talmud is the primary source of Jewish law and theology. Are you up to the challenge?

JLI TORAH STUDIES

IS THE GIFT OF GAB OVERRATED?

A Look at the Way Society Values Style over Substance

Moses couldn’t speak properly. This class uses his extraordinary leadership to explore the importance of speech, both literally and metaphysically. Why was the great leader of the Jews so flawed? Why didn’t G-d care? And what lessons does this provide for us today?

Your Questions
(Why) Must a Bar Mitzvah Boy Read From the Torah?
There is a prevalent custom for boys to read the weekly Torah portion when they become a bar mitzvah. Here's why.

Parshah
The Estate of Goshen
We may feel that we are enslaved by the lure of the material, that we are trapped by its grip. Yet, the Torah reminds us that we have the power to free ourselves from its gravitational pull.

Parshah in a Nutshell

Parshat Vayigash

Judah approaches Joseph to plead for the release of Benjamin, offering himself as a slave to the Egyptian ruler in Benjamin’s stead. Upon witnessing his brothers’ loyalty to one another, Joseph reveals his identity to them. “I am Joseph,” he declares. “Is my father still alive?”

The brothers are overcome by shame and remorse, but Joseph comforts them. “It was not you who sent me here,” he says to them, “but G‑d. It has all been ordained from Above to save us, and the entire region, from famine.”

The brothers rush back to Canaan with the news. Jacob comes to Egypt with his sons and their families— seventy souls in all—and is reunited with his beloved son after 22 years. On his way to Egypt he receives the divine promise: “ Fear not to go down to Egypt; for I will there make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again.”

Joseph gathers the wealth of Egypt by selling food and seed during the famine. Pharaoh gives Jacob’s family the fertile county of Goshen to settle, and the children of Israel prosper in their Egyptian exile.

Today's Quote
My G-d, the soul You placed within me, it is pure; You created it, You formed it, You breathed it into me, You preserve it within me, You will take it from me and return it to me in a future time...
